Is it possible for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to say something I agree with? Forgive me, but yes. The lovely and gracious Ms. Pelosi appeared on CNN's State of the Union yesterday and was grilled on health care reform by Candy Crawley. At one point Pelosi threw her Democrat buddies overboard and suggested they support a compromise health care bill even if it meant the end of their Congressional careers. Then came the comment heretofore referenced in which she said:
"The American people need it. Why are we here? We're not here just to self-perpetuate our service in Congress. We're here to do the job for the American people, to get them results that gives them not only health security but economic security because the health issue is an economic issue for -- for America's families."
Ms. Pelosi, for once in your long and dubious political career you got it almost right! Except for the phrase, "the American people need it," you hit a home run with that sentence. You are correct that your role in Washington is not to self-perpetuate your careers. You are correct in your assertion that you owe it to us to insure both economic and health security. But then that begs the following question: If you really believe what you said, why are you trying to ram this health care down our throats?
It is precisely the perpetuation of your careers that is driving this whole charade. You may think we're stupid, madame, but we're not. You are a socialist, and socialists perpetuate their careers by seizing and maintaining as much power over the populace as possible. The whole point of this health care scam is to make as many people dependent on Washington's out-stretched hand as possible, thereby increasing your chances of being re-elected by voters who can't bear the thought of having to pay for their own doctor visits. C'mon Pelosi, stop lying to us.
As far as our economic security goes, the obvious stupidity of your statement makes Yogi Berra look downright genius! What is so economically secure about running up trillions of dollars in debt and straddling our grandchildren with deficits that are unsustainable? This plan, just like last year's porkulus and this year's jobs bill (porkulus II) are nothing short of irresponsible behavior by those of you who claim to be looking out for us. Call it what you want Ms. Pelosi, but in the real world you cannot spend money you don't have and still end up in prosperity. When I was young this principle was part of 2nd grade math!
And health security......the most secure thing you can do for my health is keep your nose out of my business! What the hay; you guys cannot even run a White House dinner without fraudulent party crashers getting their pic with POTUS; how in the heck are you going to insure I get the health care I need, when I need it, at an affordable cost? You in Washington are so inept at everything you do, you are the antithesis of the Midas touch. Old Midas was not too bright for sure, but at least he got gold out of the deal. You? Everything you touch turns to rust.
Ms. Pelosi, you spoke on Sunday about the "courage" it took to vote for Social Security back in the day. You likened that historic period to what we are facing now and implied it will take courage to vote for passage of health care. Once again madame, your obtuse nature betrays you. Real courage will be displayed by those members of Congress who stand up to you, Reid, and Obama, and refuse to go along with your little socialist scheme. Doing so will almost certainly result in the wrath of those who lead your party, as well as the Union thugs who will fight tooth and nail to destroy their careers.
You want courage? How about leading the nation based on the founding principles of individual liberty and responsibility? If you want courage you could try legitimately cutting the budget and telling all the special interest whiners to go work for their money. You can cut welfare and force people to actually go get jobs. You could get off your spending addiction cold-turkey and let us average American's keep the money we earn. If you want courage you could try telling the SEIU, AFL-CIO, and AFSCME to go take a long walk off a short pier. You might consider actually prosecuting and shutting down ACORN. You might try opening up domestic oil drilling and new coal and nuclear plants. Lady, I could go on and on with hundreds of courageous decisions you could make.
But I won't.
I won't because I know at the end of the day you are nothing more than a cowardly lion in the fantasy land of infantile citizens. Doing the right thing escapes you because the wrong thing is so firmly rooted in everything you are. So next time you're blathering on to CNN reporters just do me one favor; spare us the lectures on courage, integrity, and morality. Of all people, Ms. Pelosi, you need to keep your pious pie-hole shut.
